I’m expensive. Not really. At the very least, I’m going to need a free t-shirt, but everything else is negotiable.
Call ahead as I’m swamped with requests (not really).
Sample contract is below. Michael Smith, Superintendent Blogger/Tweeter Google Certified Administrator Social Media Educator
Speaking/Presentation/Consultation Agreement My Promise: I am a presenter/blogger who provides a valuable service for a reasonable price. I respect those I serve and will do my best to provide a lively and meaningful presentation. My idea is to give you practical information that can be put to use immediately. I have been an educator for 19 years and love every aspect of the profession. When you have a good experience I have an even better one. That is my goal.
Audiences: I present to educators, students, administrators, board members, business and professional organizations, parents, and the general public. I always customize my presentations to the group or audience.
Lodging: Generally I prefer to make my own reservations unless it is prudent to stay at the venue where I am speaking. I prefer a nonsmoking room with internet access. If you prefer to have the lodging billed directly to you that is fine with me or I can include it with my other expenses.
I want to do what is best for you and convenient for everyone.
Rental car/Travel: If I need a rental car I will rent a reasonably priced car (not a limo, SUV, or Hummer) and use any discounts I can muster up. If I drive my own vehicle I charge mileage per the government rate at the time of travel.
Expenses: I try to watch your dollars. I eat cheaply and try to find deals on parking and related costs. I only bill you my basic expenses, nothing more.
Handouts/Books: In most cases, handouts will be available electronically after the presentation. If requested, I will bring paper handouts and charge a minimal fee for copying/paper, usually $.04/side. For smaller groups (less than 50), there is no charge.
Airfare: I work with a travel agent who finds me excellent prices. I have no problem flying to a secondary airport or making transfers to save costs. Once I make a reservation the cost of the flight is nonrefundable, so, if for any reason you need to cancel, the cost of the airfare must be paid at the time of the cancellation.
Payment: I prefer to receive payment for my speaking fees onsite upon completion of the presentation. I will bill you for expenses. Payment is due 30 days after you receive the invoice. I am willing to discuss other options.
Contractual Obligation: When we agree on a presentation I block that date out and do not accept other possible contracts, therefore, once I have acted on your promise we have entered into an agreement whether verbal or in writing. You are then obligated to pay my fee and, if purchased, my airline tickets. I am a reasonable and professional person. I will work with you in every way possible to provide the service you have requested and to honor any special requests you share. I will also consider special circumstances.
Rider: I like M & M’s. You don’t have to take out the brown ones.
Please sign this contract, make a copy for your records, and return the original to me at 201 Forest Glen, Tuscola, IL 61953. An email return is acceptable as well.
I truly look forward to working with you and welcome any questions you may have at anytime. I have provided several ways to contact me on the Contact page of this website.
Average Fee: Always Negotiable plus Expenses for Keynote and Negotiable per Breakout Session
Don’t ever let price scare you. I have a soft spot for smaller schools/organizations and will work with you on cost.
