Michael N. Smith served as the Superintendent at Tuscola Community Unit School District #301 located in Tuscola, Illinois from 2011-2018. As a Google Certified Administrator he is passionate about establishing and fostering learning environments that are student-centered, collaborative, and flexible, which prepare all learners to succeed in the 21st Century.
He is honored to be superintendent at Beardstown CUSD #15 in Beardstown, Illinois starting on July 1, 2021.
His interests are school safety, school finances, new administrator mentoring, and the impact of social media on education. Michael has a proven track record in assisting the school districts he has served with finances. While in Oakland he was able to grow the Educational Fund from $319,000 to over $1.1 million. There was an 8 year gain of over $3 million in fund balances while serving Tuscola CUSD #301 .
As an educational administrator he firmly believes that effective communication, listening, support, and the integration of innovative teaching practices are essential elements necessary for the transformation of school cultures. Michael has emerged as a leader in the use of social media and technology as tools to engage students, improve communications with stakeholders, and help educators grow professionally.
